Unifly is the global leader in unmanned traffic management (UTM).

Unifly’s technology connects official entities with operators to integrate drones into the airspace safely and securely. It includes flight planning, airspace approval, live tracking, dynamic situational awareness and BLIP, an electronic ‘license plate’ for drones. Flight details such as the exact location, destination, altitude and purpose of the flight are fed into the central platform via the mobile network. This makes it possible to not only follow the drones in real time, but also to determine who is flying where and whether they are supposed to be there.

ZalaZONE, the new Hungarian proving ground project near the city Zalaegerszeg in southwestern Hungary, is unique in its integration of both classic vehicle dynamics testing and the multiple test and validation requirements for autonomous vehicles and autonomous vehicle technologies, including electric vehicles and V2X technologies such as 5G cellular and G5 / C-ITS.

The first phase of the project was completed in May 2019, opening the proving ground for operation. The primary users of the proving ground will be the R&D divisions of the vehicle industry’s OEMs and Tier1s, including established companies from the telecommunication technologies sector, as well as startups and SMEs from both the ICT and automotive sectors.

The project is being realized on a 265ha area. Phase 1 of the PG project includes the realization of the following: a dynamic platform, special surface module for brake testing, a high-speed handling course for driveability tests, and the modules connecting roads. Additionally, in Phase 1, a dedicated urban zone or smart city environment will be developed, making it possible for repeatable tests of special traffic situations to be created. ZalaZONE’s smart city area called Z-City can be compared to M-City in Michigan and K-City in Korea… all three being leading-edge technology test areas.

The testing opportunities of the proving ground will be extended by public road testing in both an urban public road environment in the nearby City of Zalaegerszeg, as well as rural road and highway testing opportunities (including a special 4 lane test road M76 to allow for high-speed tests up to 270km/h over a 12km section) across Hungary. Furthermore, the inclusion of Slovenian and Austrian test roads together with Hungarian roads make the ZalaZONE extended proving ground project the only known tri-national proving ground and autonomous vehicle testbed project in Europe.
